چکیده

UNLABELLED PREMISE OF THE STUDY Microsatellite loci were developed to characterize genetic variation and population subdivision in Khaya senegalensis (Desr.) A. Juss. (Meliaceae). • METHODS AND RESULTS Microsatellite loci were identified from genomic DNA sequences generated using the 454 GS-FLX titanium platform. Primers were designed for 67 tri- and tetranucleotide repeats, of which 20 were selected for 2 multiplexes based on amplification success and band size. Eleven of these loci showed polymorphism in two populations of Khaya senegalensis and amplified in individuals from across the species range. • CONCLUSIONS These new microsatellite loci will be useful for investigation of the evolutionary and conservation genetics of Khaya senegalensis.

Microsatellite Isolation and Characterization in Pomegranate (Punica granatum L.)

Development of microsatellite markers has been an increasing trend in crop genetic studies because oftheir applicability in breeding programs. Here we report the development of inter simple sequencerepeat (SSRs) in pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) using an enrichment method that makes use of magneticbeads. Enriched genomic libraries with AG and ATG microsatellite motifs were c...

Khaya senegalensis inhibits piroxicam mediated gastro-toxicity in wistar rats

Objective:The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of piroxicam co-administration with ethanolic stem-bark extract of Khaya senegalensis on biomarkers of oxidative stress and gastro-toxicity in Wistar rats. Materials and Methods: Thirty healthy male and female Albino Wistar rats (190-220 g) were grouped into six (n = 5) with designated treatments including: Normal saline, piroxi...

Sixty-seven crude ethanol extracts from 50 plants (31 families), which are used in North Côte-d'Ivoire as traditional remedies for bacterial diseases, were screened for in vitro activity against Gram negative (Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and Gram positive (Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecalis, Streptococcus pyogenes and Bacillus subtilis) bacteria. Thirty-one extracts s...

Isolation and characterization of 13 new microsatellite markers in the triangle mussel (Hyriopsis cumingii)

Microsatellite enriched library of Hyriopsis cumingii was constructed according to the strong affinity between biotin and streptavidin. One hundred clones with foreign inserts were sequenced and 65 clones were screened for usable microsatellites, of which 36 were deemed unique, of sufficient length (more than 8 repeats) and possessed adequate flanking regions for primer designment. Among 36 pri...
